I have been getting excited lately on the rad people in my life, and new rad people in my life, and the idea of summer hang outs, bonfires and beers, and swimming.

Yesterday was the first day of spring. I was super tired after a lovely party of friends, woke up at Kolin and Jenna's, and busted down to Budgies, grabbed some tip money, had breakfast with Cheylene at Nice Cafe.

I'm stoked that I'm at a place in my life where I can be super casual about crushing. It makes it so much easier to go about my life, instead of getting all my hopes up, only ot have them severely pummeled with heartache. I'm also glad that I can prioritize my friends and hanging to come way before dudes and all that shit.

So after Nice Cafe, I walked around with Todd and Leelers. We threw some parachute men off park benches, discussed the idea of a skid summer house, went to Skidsgate and bought dollar store shit.

And we went to Dairy Queen and ate CHEESEBURGERS! 3 for 5 dollars. Amazing Sweet Deals.
I bought a straw hat.

And now for some pictures.

I have been dreaming about you every night

I have been shit at updating this at all. It seems I can take the little things I do with my life and give them such grand importance that they squeeze everything else out.

I am swearing off love, if not forever, then for a long time. I think it's all kind of bullshit. A made up sitcom feeding idea that in reality is just a lot of people compromising themselves. Maybe I've just surpassed cynicism and entered into a new realm of bitterness.

I am getting old.

I want trains. I want campfires on the beach. I want to eat stolen avocados and fall asleep in a ditch by the tracks and wake up every time I hear an engine downgrading and the rattle of empty grainers.

I want SUMMER.

Thursday, February 5, 2009

After a short month in Wales, including a week in London, with Andrea and Seth, I'm finally back home.

Funny how traveling can affect the way you view a hometown upon return. As soon as I got back, besides getting the flu and dealing with bills and my cat Benny going through heat, I felt quite motivated to do shit with my life.

-I went to Vancouver Community College today to sign up for math upgrades.
-I started booking BOOSH TUESDAYS for the end of February.
-I called the various institutions to whom I owed substantial fees (Terasen Gas, BC Hydro, Bell Mobility, My Father) to explain my financial (or lack thereof) situation.
-My friend Kurtis and I discovered the new diner a block away from my apartment has the best breakfast sausage in the world, coupled together with the douchey looking clientele that is Railtown.

While I was away I contracted this nasty MRSA infection on my butt. I thought it was a spider bite, the Liverpool St. Station NHS Walk-In Centre nurse said it was probably an in-grown hair.
The doctors made fun of me, "A spider? It wasn't about this big with black fuzzy hair, was it?"
They don't get spider bites in Wales.

I've developed a serious relationship with the Waves Coffee in Chinatown. The bathroom is blacklit but theres so many glowing bits of toilet paper everywhere that it kind of resembles one of those space exhibits for kids at Science World. Except you wouldn't let kids in because instead of absorbing knowledge about outerspace, they'd be absorbing hepatitis through the toilet seat.
They are into techno here. I always wonder if chain places like this are restricted to The Beat 93FM or if the employees are left to make these terrible decisions on their own.

There we go. Now it will be another month before I update this.

I realize now that I suck at updating, I get stoked on things in waves. Right now the tide is out. Sorry. Talk soon.

Sparks got too rad

MillerCoors LLC will stop producing and marketing caffeinated alcoholic drinks, including the current formulation of its top-selling Sparks brand, under a settlement with more than a dozen state attorneys general.

The beer giant had come under fire from attorneys general and consumer-advocacy groups for allegedly targeting underage drinkers through its marketing of Sparks.

“Attorneys general from around the country are gravely concerned about pre-mixed alcoholic energy drinks because these products are dangerous and look and taste like popular non-alcoholic energy drinks,” Maine Attorney General Steve Rowe said in a prepared statement.

Today’s settlement specifically addresses concerns about the marketing of Sparks. Although MillerCoors denied acting improperly, it agreed to make some major changes. These include:

  • Stop using images that imply power (battery-themed +/- symbols on the can) and that appeal to underage youth to market the product.
  • Not renewing its contract with William Ocean (I’ll be doing a post on him soon), a MillerCoors-sponsored air guitarist who back flips onto an opened can of Sparks at his shows.
  • Immediately discontinue the Sparks website.
  • Reformulate Sparks brand products without caffeine or other stimulants and agreed not to produce any other caffeinated alcohol beverages in the future.
